The Story of The Three Brick Layers
The story of the Three Bricklayers is true... I used it as a metaphor to try and encourage 'Bigger Picture' thinking in our business. After the great fire of London in 1666, Sir Christopher Wren was tasked with rebuilding St Paul's Cathedral.
So the story goes...he observed three bricklayers all working very hard but observed that there was a different output in their work. The Three bricklayers were asked: 'What are you doing and Why?

Bricklayer 1 said 'I am laying bricks'
Bricklayer 2 said 'I am building a wall'
Bricklayer 3 said 'I am building a Cathedral'
If an Engineer is working on a project for a Pharmaceutical Company who make life-saving medicines, they might use the same approach? Why Not?
Engineer 1: I am doing Layout Drawings
Engineer 2: I am putting Line Layout together.
Engineer 3: I am putting Line Layout together so that we can visualise it, manage risks and deliver on time and help our customers get on with their business of saving lives.
If you would like to know more, get in touch and I can help you create bigger picture thinking in your own teams.
